Alexander McShiras is a graduate of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He earned his undergraduate degree in International Studies and Hispanic Studies from Boston College, and he has a Masters of Arts Degree in International Relations from Marquette University. While at Boston College, Mr. McShiras studied abroad at the Universidad de San Francisco in Quito, Ecuador. Mr. McShiras is bilingual in English and French.
Mr. McShiras is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (“AILA”), and he has served on several AILA Colorado committees: the Asylum Liaison Committee, the USCIS Liaison Committee, and the New Members Division Committee. Mr. McShiras is a member of the Colorado Bar Association (“CBA”), the El Paso County Bar Association, and the Immigration Law Section of the CBA, where he serves as the treasurer. Mr. McShiras is a member of the Faculty of Federal Advocates and he has experience litigating immigration cases in federal court. Finally, Mr. McShiras serves as the vice president of the Colorado Catholic Lawyers Guild. He has a passion for representing clients and for solving complex immigration issues. Mr. McShiras lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, also an immigration lawyer, whose family immigrated to the United States from India.
Mr. McShiras is licensed to practice law in Colorado and he is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has worked on matters before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”), the Immigration Court, the Board of Immigration Appeals (“BIA”), Colorado District Courts, the Colorado Court of Appeals, the Colorado Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, and the United States Tenth Circuit and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeals.
Mr. McShiras has worked as a paralegal for the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project in Florence, AZ, as well as for four private immigration law firms in Colorado; in addition to his current position in 7SV Law Chambers Immigration Law Firm.
